Shannon & Roberto | An Elopement at Grant Park

Shannon & Roberto are married!

There’s something incredible to be said about a small, intimate wedding. When Shannon & Roberto contacted us in late August, we were thrilled to meet up over a beer and chat. We learned they wanted to focus their wedding day on their love and family rather than a large and extravagant wedding. Their vision in August weren’t fully developed but with chatting and planning, their perfect day unfolded seamlessly.

On a cool Friday in October, we met Shannon arrived in the parking lot of Grant Park. She ventured down the trees, over the bridge and onto the beach where she approached Roberto. Along the guests were Shannon’s parents, brother Drew who was officiating, her other brothers and sister and Roberto’s parents. It was small and beautiful.

The day was windy and with Lake Michigan crashing into the beach, it was hard to hear if you were not in the circle of ten people. As TJ and I circled, we saw smiles, tears and every other emotion in between. Without hearing the words they exchanged, we knew exactly what was happening by body language and facial expressions.

After their short but beautiful ceremony on the beach, we did some family photographs then ventured the park with Shannon & Roberto. The leaves were peeking with color; it was almost as if the leaves changed just for them. Following some portraits, Shannon & Roberto took their family out for ax throwing then dinner at Braise. Simple, sweet and perfect.

Being a part of this was so special and we cannot express how honored we were to have been there, capturing this beautiful love.

Congratulations Shannon & Roberto!
We cannot wait for a food outing with you!

Floral design: Bird & Bumble

“Rebecca was amazing! I had gone to a few florists prior to meeting with her and although everyone was nice and knowledgable, no one stood out like she did. She was young, fresh, got things locally, and was genuinely interested and excited about my vision for the day. She went above and beyond her job by adding beautiful touches and mementos from the day that we can cherish. She talked me down during a stressful time and I ended up putting all the responsibility and trust in her. We didn’t give ourselves much time to plan and she understood the stress of the time crunch. She also put a lot of work into thinking of the perfect concept that would be cost efficient, easily transportable in a park setting, and also recyclable for our small reception. It’s difficult to put into words how much she helped me beyond the flowers, but it made a big difference. My flowers were more than gorgeous and met every expectation I had and more (and I’m very specific when it comes to the details). They were better than every photo I found on pinterest and brought everything together, from color, to shape, to texture, and presentation to a T. I would recommend her a million times over and will be recommending her for years to come!”

Rug: Relics Vintage Rental

Post Ceremony Fun: AXE MKE

“I initially worked with one of the co-owners, Marla and then transitioned into working with one of the managers, Mary for scheduling out private lanes at AXE MKE. Not only were those two hours a blast, but they made everything much more seamless than expected, with zero hiccups and friendly people throughout the whole process. Highly recommended for a random night or any planned party! What can you not like about throwing axes  (in your wedding dress) and an open bar? Only in WI…”

Dinner: Braise

“Amazing on so many levels. We had a hard time finding a space that fit our budget for a small group wanting a private space, but also provided on the food front. We are very adventurous (and picky) when it comes to food. Although we had never eaten here, this farm to table restaurant with an every-changing menu based on what WI offers within 100 miles, was just the right fit. We are so glad we stumbled upon it and it will definitely be added to our favorites list. We worked primarily with the Manager/Event Coordinator Becky who was informative, communicate and all around super helpful. She answered our million questions cool, calm, collectively, and more than delivered! We also worked with the Bar Manager, Nick, to create our own custom, seasonally creative drinks for the day, which were all hits. We even got to name them! The upstairs space provided a private bar, bathroom, and our own server. Jordan was our server and worked flawlessly yet unobtrusively. She was fun, friendly, helpful, and smiling. The outdoor space was what really set the scene apart with its rooftop illuminated by the Rockwell Clock where they have outdoor seating and grow some of their own herbs! We requested a fire pit where we all moved after dinner and dessert to drink and be merry in the fall chill.”

Musical Entertainment: Los Tres Acustico

“We went to Summerfest on a random day at a random time because we had free tickets. We saw Los Tres Acustico were up next nearby and stopped by. We love salsa and Caribbean rhythms so thought they would be a good fit. We ended up sitting close on a picnic bench and staying for their whole acoustic set, which played latin classics as well as new-age songs with Carribean flare. We loved them so much we talked to them after and got their card. A month before the wedding my phone case broke and out fell the card from behind. I told Roberto it happened for a reason and we had to call to see if we could afford to have them there. We got things figured out and were blown away by their performance. The reception wouldn’t have been the same without them and we can’t wait to see them play again. Thomas (percussion), Víctor (guitar) and Joey (base) absolutely outdid themselves and even learned a new song that Roberto sang to me as a surprise. Everyone loved them and cut a rug.”
