Emily & Erik | Engagement Session Milwaukee

share /

All summer long I’ve had pretty much blue skies and sun for all the sessions I’ve done.  Of course, the one day I had two engagement sessions schedule, it would rain… all day.  Emily and Erik were my first session and we did something that I’ve never done before and that was shoot before noon.  Typically I like to schedule all my sessions during the later “golden hour” which is about an hour before sunset.  Doing so cuts down on harsh lighting conditions and provides for some dramatic skies.  Well since I had two scheduled that day, we decided for the early morning so we could catch some of the golden hour in the morning.  Nature didn’t cooperate however.  We got overcast skies and rain showers.  Side note: pictures will actually turn out “better” with overcast skies….you’ll see this by how colorful the pictures turned out.

Anyway… Emily and Erik both live in Chicago so we really didn’t have an opportunity to reschedule, especially with being on the tail end of the fall season.  They were great about it though and had no problems being out in the rain.  In fact, you can see rain droplets in some of the pictures and I thought it created a really cool effect.  One of their favorite places to go in Chicago is a bakery called Molly’s Cupcakes and they wanted to incorporate it into their session.  You’ll see what I mean..

By the way.. thank you for bringing me the cupcake, it was fantastic.
